In many ways, you yield some authority to the church. It does not come from common religion or personality or even values; it only comes through mutual self transcendence. In areas with lots of single Mormons of dating and marriageable age, the Church has established singles wards. I would rather being with a man who makes less and is faithful but that is just me!. The scenario where she refused to watch a possibly 'anti' documentary and wanted to watch church-sanctioned material sounds like a red flag. Having seen many examples of the disaster it becomes when a member spouse pushes, coerces, ultimatums the non-member spouse into being baptized, I have very assiduously steered clear of those methods from the start. The thing about General Authorities and General Conference, is that they give general counsel that is meant for the general population. I know this from experience.
